Helping to eradicate poverty in The Gambia

Nearly 60% of the Gambian population falls below the overall poverty line and 40% below the food poverty line.

However, if income security were defined to mean a safety margin of more than 25% above the poverty line, only 23% of the population could be classified as being in non-precarious positions. Inequality is not a feature of Gambia's poverty profile. There are no rich households, in any absolute sense, in rural Gambia, and few in urban Gambia. -World Bank
